Production Planner

My client is seeking an experienced Production Planner

Reports to: Production Manager

Hours – 11.00 – 19.30 Mon – Fri

Scope of role:

This position involves the master scheduling of materials and labour to ensure the most effective utilisation of resources, machines and materials to achieve the daily / monthly deliverables, in order that they satisfy customer demand

The opportunity to establish new procedures and working practices for an operation thats migrated to 24/7 working over 4 shifts, and implementing lean manufacturing techniques with flow-line operations

Key responsibilities:

Working closely with the buyers, scheduling of materials in order that we can satisfy production demand
Assist with the inventory control ensuring adequate stock and FIFO adherence whilst maintaining agreed stocking levels
Assess shortages to orders daily and prioritise work to fulfil these orders
To be the key interface between Production and the Supply Chain, ensuring effective communications and the impacts of each others actions are understood
Planning of resources the ensure the best customer service level/stock availability is maintained, whilst ensuring the most effective deployment of production labour, including labour load levelling for process flow-lines
Planning of Surface Mount Technology and Plated Through Hole area machine throughput to ensure most efficient utilisation of the plant and minimal downtime through set-ups
Develop a resource process for labour utilisation at the Flow-lines for ensuring appropriate labour V demand, in line with TAKT time requirements
Plan and co-ordinate the manufacture of items in a timely and efficient manner to achieve your objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), as determined by your Manager
Communicate to both despatch teams, any orders not likely to be despatched on-time, providing new estimated delivery
Working closely with the 3 shift supervisors, set the priorities for production and ensure they have the data for handover between shifts
Management / loading of the internal Works Orders to drive demand in the most effective way
Through co-ordination with the sales teams establish a forum for forecasting of sales demand at product level
Maintain a robust build planning program to meet forecasted sales predictions including control of the Safety Margin Alert (SMA) list
Responsible for the analysis of data, stats and reports for the compilation and display of metrics (including safety stock levels, over-dues, service level reporting, labour loading etc)
To assist Operations Engineering with the validation of routing times, leading to more accurate costing and planning
To measure the on-going cost reductions achieved as a result of efficiency improvements
Integral member of the Continuous Improvement team
Any other reasonable duties and cover as required by management from time to time

Key skills and experience:

A minimum of 5 years recent, relevant experience in Production Control / Master Production Scheduling or Materials Planning role
HND or equivalent in Mechanical, Production or Electronics Engineering Ideally from the electronics industry with a good understanding of PCBs and componentry
Hands on expertise with the use of ERP MRPII systems
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages
Database and SQL proficiency
Excellent analytical skills
Knowledge and application of business improvement techniques would be an advantage
Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma techniques would be a distinct advantage An understanding of KANBAN replenishment techniques and Direct Line Feed an advantage

High level of interpersonal skills
Excellent planning, organising and prioritising skills
Diligent attention to detail with accuracy of information
Ability to use your initiative and make decisions
Ability to implement and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
Customer focused
Experience of Quality Management Systems (ie ISO 9001) essential
